Wichard uses top-quality grades
of stainless steel in its products. The first type is a low
carbon austenitic steel (316 L), wich offers good mechanical
characteristics. For the High Resistance articles it is used
a martensitic steel (17.4 PH).
Wichard products are HOT DROP
FORGED. Forging, unlike other foundry processes, "enobles"
metal by eliminating internal defects and orientating the grain
into fibers. Forging forces the fibers to adapt to the shape
and function of the product. A cast product has a random grain
and will fracture suddenly, but a forged product will elongate
before it breaks. This gives an additional safety margin.
Wichard's shackles are hot forged
for safety and security. Selecting a Wichard shackle is the
choice for safety. The Wichard range offers an incomparable
choice of material, shape, size and function. They also feature
captive pin, self-locking, key pin and allen key.
Both plain bearing blocks and ball
bearing blocks have an exceptional ratio price/quality. The new
line of ball bearing blocks features a unique ball load bearing
system. Wichard has moved the ball bearing race from the center
axle to the cheeks. Under high loads the balls enable virtual
friction free operation. Under extreme loads the pressure is transferred
to the axle, and therefore, the working limit on a Wichard block
is highly increased.
On sailboats the backstay adjusters
enables the crew to precisely adjust and control the forestay
tension. Wichard backstay adjusters are available in 3 versions:
one with a wheel, another with a folding handle which works
like a ratchet and a larger one with an integrated ratchet system.
Babystay is essential when a
boat is fitted with a roller furling system. The Wichard pelican
adjusters are simple, strong and safe. They are designed to
allow quick and easy attachment of the babystay.
